AP® Cybersecurity glossary

Host

A device that sends or receives data on a network, such as a laptop, phone, printer or server.

Appears in the course and exam description (CED): 3.1.B.2

Why it matters in Unit 3

Unit 3 scenarios start with hosts: one compromised host on the local area network (LAN) can be used to reach other hosts on the same network.

Example

A laptop, a printer and a file server on the same office network are all hosts. The server is a host that provides a service to other hosts.
